Ann and I moved to France in 1982, and lived in Capestang for six years.
We were fortunate to live in one of the original canal side houses which had been built at the same time as the canal, circa 1680. In those days foreigners were something of a novelty and locals were not quite sure what to do so they did what they do best, they made us welcome and taught us to relax, enjoy life, and to BBQ.
Our son Oliver has always lived here. He is one of those lucky people who are completely bi-lingual, and has just finished his BTS in wine production. After Capestang we could have moved somewhere else, another country perhaps, but leaving such an area was too difficult, it has everything we want.
Before Aumes we spent 10 years in Pezenas, the first 5 years were spent renovating a large farmhouse which resulted in three holiday apartments plus our own. For the following 5 years we let out the apartments during the summer. The houses in Aumes was the next project, and we are very pleased with the move. Aumes is very relaxing, and we enjoy the atmosphere very much. Ann has completed a full time wine course. As you may know, wine production is the major industry here, in fact down the road in Montagnac is what was once the largest wine co-operative in Europe.
